Now that you have explored your options and are ready to pursue employment opportunities, we encourage you to leverage the many resources available to assist you with this process. This is the exciting part! It takes a lot of hard work and preparation, and yes, you will FAIL sometimes. Finding and securing a good opportunity is well worth the effort.
Networking and Interviewing
Effective networking and interviewing skills are key to any successful job or internship search. Bowdoin Career Planning offers several resources and programs to help you develop these skills.
A good place to start is by checking out our Networking Essential Guide and attending the “How to Explore and Land Your Dream Job” workshop. When you are ready to practice, be sure to attend the Bowdoin Connections Receptions during winter break (every other year). Seniors also have the opportunity to attend the Etiquette Dinner.
You will not find a more networking-friendly group than the community of Bowdoin alumni/ae and family. Speak with your advisor about how you can connect with these people using the Bowdoin Career Advisory Network (BCAN) on LinkedIn and the Alumni Database.
To practice and refine you interviewing skills, sign up for a mock viewpoint though the Career Planning Center.
Also, don’t miss the Annual Do’s and Don’ts Fashion Show. Bring your worst-dressed friends and learn about dressing for success at this highly entertaining event.
We encourage students in all class years to begin preparing and honing these skills. As a Senior, you will be required to complete the Steps for Recruiting Readiness which are designed to help you achieve success with job searches now and in the future.
Finding and Pursuing Opportunities
Leveraging eBEAR is the key to being informed about job and internship postings, guest speakers and special events, Bowdoin’s on-campus recruiting, and off-campus recruiting events. Also make sure that your profile is up to date so that you will receive notifications about opportunities and events that are relevant to your potential interests.
Maximize your experience with the Bowdoin Career Connection by using keyword search and participating in discussions and following blogs.
We wish you all the best and look forward to helping you pursue great opportunities that are the right fit for you.
